The Saurashtra Cricket Association (SCA) has insured the first One-Day International cricket match between India-England at Rajkot for Rs 5.80 crore from the National Insurance Company.

The first ODI of the five match series would be played at the new SCA ground on January 11. The stadium was recently inaugurated by Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi.

According to SCA officials, the insurance would cover various risks like match cancelation and audience injury.

“We have taken insurance from National Insurance Company for the India-England ODI match. This is the first cricket match that will be played on newly built cricket stadium in Rajkot,” they said. Insurance cover of Rs 5.80 crore would cover three types of risks during the match.

Out of total amount Rs 2.50 crore is for match cancelation, Rs 1.50 crore is for audience injury and Rs 1.80 crore is for advertisements on the ground.

SCA official said, “We hope nothing unexpected will happen during the match. But as it is first match on our new ground, we do not want to take any kind of risk so SCA has decided to insure the match.”

The newly built SCA cricket stadium has been constructed at a cost of around Rs 75 crore. It is spread over 5.50 lakh sq ft area on the Rajkot-Jamnagar highway near Khandheri.
