Consumer court rules against New India Assurance

When the vehicle was stolen at night, he immediately lodged a police complaint. When they could not find the bike, he claimed insurance. The company assured him that it would settle within a month but there was no action even after seven months.

In a complaint to the consumer redressal forum, New India said they had sent the terms and conditions to Nahak. They insisted that he complained to the police after two days and informed the company by telephone, only submitting the documents after a week. The company the bike was stolen due to Nahak’s carelessness, pointing out that a single key had been submitted.

However, the court took a rather poor view of this, and asked the company to pay the sum assured of Rs30,000, along with Rs2,000 for mental agony and Rs2,000 as litigation charges.
