Maharashtra govt’s RGJAY health insurance benefits 70,000

 

 

 

Over 70,000 citizens got operated for free , thanks  to the state government’s healthcare scheme, the Rajiv Gandhi Jeevandayee Arogya Yojana (RGJAY) that completed a year. The RGJAY provides health insurance  cover of up to Rs 1.5 lakh for families earning less than Rs 1 lakh per year. 

 

 

Claims of up to Rs 183 crore were sanctioned by the state to the hospitals for up to 952 procedures that the patients were treated for in the past year. In the city, public hospitals such as KEM Hospital in Parel, Tata Memorial Hospital in Parel and Nair Hospital in Mumbai Central emerged as the top healthcare providers. Seven Hills Hospital in Andheri and Surana Hospital in Malad emerged as the leading providers in the private sector. 

 

“About 68 per cent patients have been treated in state and civic-run hospitals, 32 per cent of patients have been treated in private hospitals across eight districts of Maharashtra including Mumbai,” said K Venkatesam, chief executive officer, RGJAY.
