Insurance News: Insurance offices in all districts soon: Mizoram CM

Mizoram Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla said that insurance has become crucial and the system is also being put in place in the state, though it is not up to the mark. “Insurance offices will be set up in every district, for which purpose the Union Finance Minister is also approached,” he said while addressing a ‘National Seminar on Motor and Life Insurance’ held at Aijal Club.

The seminar was jointly organised by Mizoram Consumers Union (MCU) and Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority  (IRDA), Hyderabad.

He said that different entities like shops, vehicles, life, health and others can all be insured. “Meanwhile, the problem we have now  is that there is no specific insurance company on health and cattle rearing. This is the reason we are lagging behind other states,”  he said.

“Anyone can meet with an accident, therefore it is the safest to get insured.”

On tackling corruption, Lal Thanhawla said the consumer union can take steps to prevent outsiders from cheating the indigenous  people working under them. “Cases are being registered against those Government employees who are corrupt and some of them  have been fired while others are suspended,”he said.

The inaugural function of the Seminar was presided over by Laldingliana Sailo, Secretary, i/c Publicity, MCU. Delegate from  Hyderabad, Yegnapriya Bharath, Jt Director, IRDA delivered introductory speech, who said that IRDA is Insurance policy holders.

Resource persons – Sudha Ramanujam, Dy Director, IRDA te,Dr.L.G. Sigh, Associate Professor and S.Hansda, Divisional Manager, LICI, Silchar participated in the Seminar. Divided into two sessions, the Seminar witnessed discussion on claim and grievances on motor insurance, the work of Surveyors and Investigator, and about Insurance in Mizoram.
