United India Insurance pays Rs 13 lakh compensation in road accident case

The family members of a man, who died in a road mishap due to rash driving of a tempo in which he was travelling, have been awarded a compensation of nearly Rs 13 lakh by a Motor Accident Claims Tribunal (MACT) here. The Tribunal directed the United India Insurance Company Ltd, with which the offending vehicle was insured, to pay Rs 12,96,100 to the wife, two children and the parents of victim Shailender Kumar Mehto. Motor Insurance: Sold car/bought car? ‘Pay compensation’

A Motor Accident Claims Tribunal (MACT) has held both the original owner and a subsequent purchaser of an uninsured vehicle involved in  road mishap liable to pay compensation to the mishap victim.

MACT Presiding Officer B S Chumbak held both the original owner, in whose name the vehicle was registered and its “new bonafide  purchaser’ liable to pay compensation while asking them to pay nearly Rs 3.5 lakh to an East Delhi woman injured in the accident involving the uninsured vehicle.
