West Bengal leads in Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yojana

West Bengal has turned out to be the best performer in the  Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yojana (RSBY).Chief minister Mamata Banerjee has tweeted that Bengal has the highest number of active RSBY smart cards in any state in India, issued to 60 lakh families, and extended been its of Rs 225 crore to 3.3 lakh insured persons in last one year.

 

The scheme provides cashless indoor treatment benefits up to Rs 30,000 per family annually through a network of 1043 hospitals in Bengal.”West Bengal also leads in coverage of RSBY among the BPL and vulnerable categories, and the first state to issue RSBY card in the name of female as head of the family,” she added. 

 

National Insurance Company along with United India Insurance, New India Insurance and some private players are insuring in RSBY. Burdwan is the district with maximum number of RSBY smart cards of 6.73 lakh. Kolkata has 1.11 lakh RSBY smart cards. The lowest penetration is in Howrah.
