IPL matches at Barabati insured for Rs 20 cr

The Orissa Cricket Association (OCA) has insured IPL matches to be played at Barabati Stadium in Cuttack on April 22 and May 1, 2012 for Rs 20 crore.

“The Board of Control for Cricket in India and Indian Premier League (IPL) have covered all IPL venues including Brabati, all the state associations, vendors, franchisees and right holders under commercial liability insurance policy for 2012-13. In addition, we have insured the matches for an amount of Rs 20 crore with Oriental Insurance Company,” OCA secretary Ashirbad Behera told media persons here on Sunday.

The cover includes Rs 5 crore each for public liability and fire and special perils and Rs 10 crore for special contingency.

OCA has signed contract with Deccan Chargers for two matches of IPL 2012. The Hyderabad based team will play against Shahrukh Khan owned Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on April 22 and test their luck against the Pune Warriors India on May 1. Deccan Chargers has been playing home matches at Cuttack since 2010, when IPL Governing Council refused to clear Hyderabad as a venue due to Telengana movement and law and order situation arising out of it in Andhra Pradesh.

This year the tickets have been priced at Rs 300 and Rs 400 for galleries of different tiers and Rs 500, Rs 750, Rs 1,000 for corporate gallery, special enclosure and club house respectively. While corporate box ticket will cost Rs 4000 and tickets for A/C box can be bought at Rs 2,500. Out of total 43,190 seats, the franchisee has released 34,932 seats for public sale and the leftovers have been reserved for BCCI-IPL, Deccan Chargers owners and the state association.

The counter sale of tickets for the first match will start from Monday at 14 counters located in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack while for second match, sales of ticket is scheduled to start on April 24.

To woo the local crowds, the Deccan Chargers on Sunday appointed Ollywood actress Archita Sahoo as the brand ambassador for their team. Earlier they had declared Oriya actor Sabyasachi as the brand ambassador.

E Venkantram Reddy , Chief Operating officer, Deccan Chargers said, Barabati Stadium has turned out to be lucky for the team as it has won the two matches it played here in 2010.
