XL Catlin appoints Claudia Thyme as Director Emerging Markets Development

XL Catlin has appointed Claudia Thyme to the role of Director Emerging Markets Development. In this role, Ms. Thyme will contribute to driving and executing XL Catlin’s emerging market strategies, with a particular focus on Latin America. She will report to Brendan Plessis, Head of Emerging Markets and will work closely with business leaders across XL Catlin to explore and assess opportunities for continued profitable growth. Commenting Mr. Plessis said: “We recognize the tremendous opportunities in a number of high growth markets to help build resilience by driving (re)insurance penetration and believe this is the right time to further strengthen our team. Claudia’s broad international experience, solid insights into our industry and our company, in addition to her command of several languages, positions her ideally to help deliver our strategy.” Ms. Thyme has twenty years’ experience in the insurance industry, ten years of which have been spent at XL Catlin. In her new role she transfers from the Communications & Marketing team, where she most recently held the position of Director Strategy & Business Groups. Before joining XL in 2008, Ms. Thyme was with Zurich Insurance for ten years, where she held senior roles including Head of Communications & Marketing for the International Businesses Division and for the Growth Office. Ms. Thyme started her career as a communications and marketing consultant, advising companies and their boards on change management strategies.  She holds a BA from Georgetown University, Washington D.C. and an MBA from City University London Business School.
