Clarifications on Renewal Conditions under Regulation 6 (3) (a) (v) of IRDAI (Insurance Surveyors and Loss Assessors) Regulations 2015

After enactment of IRDA Act, 1999, IRDAI was empowered to grant license to Surveyors and loss assessors. In the year 2001-02, Authority carried out the one-time exercise of categorization of then practicing licensed surveyors and categorization letters were issued to all those surveyors who participated in the categorization exercise at the time of enactment of IRDAI Act based on their educational qualification and past experience etc. Categorization letter issued by the Authority displays the departments in which they are eligible to work.

In order to renew the licenses of the above surveyors and loss assessors, Authority recognizes their categorization as stated under Regulation 6(3)(a)(v) of IRDAI (Insurance Surveyors and Loss Assessors) Regulations, 2015 and such Surveyors and Loss Assessors are not required to possess any other requisite qualification as specified in Schedule – I Annexure – 1of Surveyors Regulations 2015.

Applicable Provision of Regulation 6(3)(a)(v):

Proof of qualification(notarized) or categorization letter issued by the Authority stating the eligible Departments in accordance with the categorization made vide IRDA/Order/SLA/30/3/2002 dated 30th March, 2002.

The above clarification is issued under Regulation 26 of IRDAI (Insurance Surveyors and Loss Assessors) Regulations, 2015.
