Car insurance scam busted, duo nabbed

The Ulhasnagar crime branch has arrested two people for running a fake vehicle insurance racket and cheating people who did not have the time to stand in queue to get their automobile insurance.

The arrested accused, Dilip Wadekar (57) and Bhagwan Halale (27) are both residents of Dombivli.

According to crime branch officials Wadekar used to work as an agent at the Kalyan RTO while Halale works with a private insurance company from where he stole certificates and insurance forms and then made several copies of the same.

According to their modus operandi, Wadekar used to bring in customers and have them fill out the forms distributed by Halale and would then provide the victims with forged insurance certificates. Cops said they received a tip-off about the racket, following which a trap was laid to nab the duo.
